​Like I said earlier in this review, the Blaze provides over 60 exercises. The lat tower with angled bar for shoulders and back muscles, squat station/lower pulley, and leg extension are a few of the features that contribute to the variety of exercises.

Another noteworthy feature is the sliding seat. The sliding seat allows you to use the home gym as a rowing machine. The seat can slide back and forward which emulates a rowing experience. The cardio row is an interesting extra because it means this model can also help you to increase your cardiovascular fitness level.

​The machine itself is quite easy to use. One of the aspects that makes it easy to use are the multifunctional handgrips. They are designed for extra performance and flexibility. The handgrips can be used as regular grips, but they also serve as; shoulder cuffs, non-grip cuffs, foot cuffs and ankle cuffs. So they can be used for different functions.

Furthermore, the full assembly process of the machine takes 28 steps. Compared to some other types of fitness equipment the assembly process might be a bit confusing for some people, especially if you’ve got ‘2 left hands’ you probably want to take your time. However, the steps in the assembly guide are all pretty straight-forward and include pictures.

​The Power Rods ® give you a maximum standard resistance of 210 Lbs. If you get more strength, you might want to upgrade them to 310 Lbs or 410 Lbs. The fact that the resistance can be upgraded is interesting for users who think the standard resistance might not be sufficient in the future.

The resistance is provided by cables/rods instead of the more traditional weight stacks you might see on some other home gyms. The rods are protected with rubber coating to increase the durability of the rods and are made from composite material.

Each rod has got its own weight. The rods vary between 5 Lb and 50 Lb of resistance. With the standard version of this model you’ll get the following rods; one pair of 50 lb, one pair of 30 lb, two pairs of 10 lb and one pair of 5 lb, which in total is the 210 lbs of resistance. If you want to increase the level of resistance, you can choose to combine multiple rods. So you can quite accurately choose your preferred resistance.

Comparison with other ​Bowflex home gyms

Bowflex PR 3000

​The PR3000 is another all-in-one workout machine from Bowflex. The machine has similarities, but also some differences.

It has the same maximum standard resistance of 210 pounds. The PR3000 also provides the option to upgrade the resistance. However, you can only upgrade it to 310 pounds instead of 410 pounds.

Furthermore, it doesn’t have a cardio rowing rails. So you can’t use the PR3000 for cardio rows, which might make it a less interesting model for people who like to vary their regular strength training workout with cardio rowing (on a rails).


Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE

​You might also want to take a look at the Bowflex Xtreme 2SE. The 2SE offers over 70 exercises, has the same standard resistance of 210 pounds (also upgradable to 310-pounds or 410-pounds) and power rod system.

Compared to the Blaze, the 2SE has a different design. As you may have already noticed it doesn’t have an extended bench, which also means that this model doesn’t have a cardio rowing option. However, if you like rowing, then you can also use the hand grips to perform seat rows in front of the machine.

Regarding design, it has an ergonomic seat with a Polyurethane cushion. The design provides extra support for your back and knees. Furthermore, the overall machine has a different look, which some might find more attractive.

Conclusion

​The Bowflex Blaze is a home gym that can be used by beginners as well as more advanced users. Beginners might like the fact that the owner’s guide and workout placard provides them with the guidance they may need. Plus, the machine is pretty user-friendly.

More advanced users might like the relatively large number of exercises and the upgradable resistance. As a more experienced user, you might already know that varying your workout routine is important to keep progressing. This machine provides variation in exercises and resistance.
